Understanding Safeguarding & Child Protection

Aim

After completing this course you will have a better understanding of safeguarding and child protection, the types of abuse and neglect a child in your care may suffer, how to identify the signs of abuse and neglect and most importantly how to take the correct course of action if you have concerns about their safety and welfare or suspect a child is being abused.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this training, participants will have an understanding of:

  • Child Protection and the concept of safeguarding
  • Child maltreatment and all forms of abuse
  • Categories of Abuse, Signs, Symptoms and referral processes
  • Understanding basic information and background about the legislative framework which informs the protection of children, including the Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Procedures
  • What to do if they have concerns about a child’s safety and well-being, including those who are suffering, or at risk of suffering, significant harm
  • Who to contact and report to if they are concerned about a child’s safety and welfare
  • What will happen once they have informed someone about those concerns
  • Also an awareness of the Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and procedures

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This training is aimed at everyone in regular contact with children and young people. Adults who are parent/s or carers, in a position to identify concerns about maltreatment, harm or risk to children. This includes those people who come into contact with parents or carers of children, such as: those working with adults with mental health issues or learning disabilities, NGO’s, All Health care professionals, All Education professionals, Librarians, religious organisations, child minders, those working with children in residential and day care settings, in faith organisations, in sport and leisure settings (paid and unpaid capacity)
