Level 2

Aims:

To develop knowledge, skills and the ability to work together on the processes for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including those who are suffering, or at risk of suffering, significant harm. Providing an opportunity for colleagues from different agencies to learn together and explore professional dilemmas.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the training participants will be able to:

  • Have an understanding of the operation and function of SaffronSDGF, government stakeholders and other child abuse NGOs
  • Discuss and refresh on learning outcomes from Level 1 training
    Recognition of Abuse and Neglect, Signs, Symptoms and referral processes’
  • Advanced understanding of Child Protection and the concept of safeguarding in line with the United Nations 5 outcomes and the legislative framework within which children’s welfare is safeguarded and promoted
  • Understand the importance of managing personal attitudes to and beliefs, including how diversity, gender, culture, religion, ethnicity, lifestyle choice, etc are relevant in child abuse, child protection and safeguarding
  • Understand inter-agency roles and responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Demonstrate skills in effective collaboration between agencies to achieve intended outcomes for the child and family members
  • Discuss the ways in which information will be recorded and shared, between agencies, including the way in which children and other family members will be involved
  • Describe what to do if they are unhappy with the response from agencies following a referral or if they have any further worries about a child’s welfare.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Aimed at those who work regularly with children and young people, and with adults who are parents or carers, and who may be asked to contribute to assessments of children in need of help and support. This group should have a higher minimum level of expertise: a fuller understanding of how to work together to identify and asses concerns and to plan, undertake and review interventions

PREREQUISITES:

Participants must have completed the core course – Understanding Safeguarding and Child Protection
